Well for all of you who sew out there this is a post for you. Like many of you I love tutorials! I like to see what others create. So along those lines I decided I would create a post linking to all of the great tutorials I have found. Giveway issues

I know that I have had some trouble trying to post comments on some giveaways, Internet Explorer does not seem to like some of the comment sections sing in's, I was already signed into Google but it didn't seem to be working, I was able to get around it when they had the Name/Url sign in but not all of them had that either, have no fear! If you are having the same issue, switch to Firefox- Works great, no issues! Yeh!

Ok it's Giveaway Time!

Well this is my first giveaway and I have decided to do several giveaways, I will be giving away to 4 different people one of the pre-shirred fabrics below.

The first fabric is about 18" W x 29" L. It is very cute with butterflies, ladybugs and dragonflies on a blue background.The next fabric is just beautiful, daisies on navy blue with white dots, the bottom is white with navy blue dots. It is about 20" W x 29" L.Thirdly we have a fantastic print piece of fabric, it is about 16" W x 29" L. It has been pre-washed, I purchased it at 18" and after washing some of the shirring unravelled, lets just say I learned my lesson on pre-washing them, I did not cut the unravelled part off so it is still 18" but only 16" are good to use.

Lastly, we have a very cute butterfly shirred fabric on a dark to light green back ground. It is about 20" W x 29" L.I'm going to make entering easy, just leave a comment below with your email address and if you have a fabric choice leave that too. It has been a while and a tutorial!

Well it has been a while since I have posted anything, I'm always way to busy and when I have free time I like to read other people's blogs, some of my favs are Ucreate, The Sewing Dork, and The Long Thread. They all have some really great tutorials!

Speaking of tutorials, I was a nut and decided that my kiddo needed to give every little kid in the Kindergarten class a going away present for the summer. There are 16 kiddos in the class. We tried to keep to a summer theme, you know, little buckets with shovels, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, etc, but we also decided that it would be fun to make something personal for each kid, pencil toppers! What was I thinking? pencil toppers? Well it started out as just one pencil with topper for each kid and then it became 2 pencils with toppers for each kid, my kiddo would have loved to do 20 for each kid, but we agreed 2 would be enough. So here it goes the tutorial, let me know if you need more directions, not sure if I took enough pics or not, my little one wanted more and more pics, such a camera ham I have, oh and the little fingers, are my little helper-

Pencil Toppers 1 by 1 ;)

What you will needed:

1 Little Helper
Felt in various colors (Got mine at JoAnn's)
Pkg of Heat n Bond ultra bond no sew adhesive
Freezer paper
Fabric Glue (I used Liquid Fusion)
Decorations (Glitter, buttons, etc)
Pieces of paper 1/2" strips about 2 to 3" long
Scissors with a sharp point
Pencils
Iron and board

NOTE OF CAUTION: When you iron, the paper and the felt get hot fast, make sure to let cool completely before you or the little one touch, we don't want anyone getting burned.

First I searched the web for some clip art designs, or pictures I could use to create my designs (I can not draw to save my life so this seemed like the best way). We decided on some of the basics, hearts, starts, trains, footballs etc. then I copied them to a word doc and adjusted the size to what I thought would be good for a pencil topper and printed them out. Next I used a black sharpie and just went around the edges of the designs so that I would be able to see them better through the freezer paper and heat-n-bond paper. Then I traced with a pencil the designs onto both the freezer paper and the heat n bond paper.

Some of my designs had inside designs as well, like the football had the white strips and the black lacing strip (Oh, didn't realize till after that the lacing is actually white on a football, oops!), I copied them onto just the heat n bond paper. The purpose of the freezer paper is just to cut out a backing for the topper, so everything else is traced onto the heat n bond paper. Now cut out your designs, I left a little gap around the pencil marks as a buffer for cutting. Choose your felt color and iron both the freezer paper and the heat n bond on, I found that it was a good idea to iron a piece of freezer paper over my ironing board first, helps prevent accidently ironing the heat n bond to your board, voice of experience here, I will have to sew me a new board cover. WAIT- One VERY, VERY important step, make sure that when you are placing the heat n bond down that you decide where you want your pencil to stick in and slip that little piece of 1/2" paper under the heat n bond about 2/3rds of the way in, in other words between the heat n bond and the flet, this creates your pocket for the pencil. I found that it was better to make pockets on the sides of some of my designs instead of at the bottom where there might be a point or it would just be difficult to get the pencil in. My iron was set to wool and it only takes about 2-3 seconds of holding it down firm, I did have some issues with the felt staying on the iron when I picked it up, just used the point of my scissors to knock it off. (I did not have any issues with the felt melting, but you might want to test it first since I know not all felt is the same, mine was EcoFi).

Notice you can see the little piece of paper sticking out for the pencil pocket.

After ironing them all on, I began cutting them out. Because I did so many at a time I noticed that the freezer paper started peeling on some of them, just had to reheat them and they were fine.

Now cut out the heat n bond ones, no need to be careful on the paper tab that is sticking out, just cut right over it.
Peel the paper off and you will have just the glue and the paper strip left, next carefully peel the little piece of paper off, it worked best when we started at the edge and gently lifted and peeled back and then just peeled sidewise at the end.

Not sure if you can see it our not but my little helper is showing you that you will be left with a bare spot on the felt that does not have glue. Now lay one glue covered felt over one none glue felt, line up good and iron again.
Let cool and you are ready to decorate! We did glitter on this butterfly. Oh, one good thing with the felt, it was easy to use the glue and make designs and then pour liberal amounts of glitter over it and guess what, you got it! the glitter just fell right off, only stuck to the glue which is what we wanted.

Time to put on the pencil to dry and you are done! One down 31 more to go!

And belive it or not they are all done!

They were just so cute I couldn't help myself.

Featured Buyer: April Meeker

April lives in Carlsbad and describes herself as "addicted to shopping on Etsy", especially for the little one that her and her husband are adopting from China. She is also a mother, wife, sister, silversmith, runner, boxer and chocolate junky.

April says there new little one will be surrounded with unique things that she has bought on Etsy.

One of April's favorite shops is Bellaserababy. She says "I fell in love with all of her blankets, but decided on the zinnia blanket because I loved the bright colors. It was $28 dollars and came beautifully wrapped." I agree this blanket is gorgeous!

As you can see this one is for herself and what a fabulous buy, so beautiful!

April describes Etsy as "Etsy is a little like a chest of treasures. You have to spend some time sorting through all the items to find the things that really speak to you. I don't remember how I found Bellaserbaby's shop. I usually check the treasury everyday and I find some gems there. Also, just watching the newly listed items scroll across the screen can introduce you to new fun sellers."

April is also a fellow artisan and runs http://secondsister.etsy.com/ where she sells beautifully handcrafted jewelry. Here's a piece I love-

April says "As a seller, I try to acquire my own treasury every now the then. It gets your name out if only for a while. I tend to get more sells when I am consistent at listing new items.I really believe it is important not to let your shop get stagnant."

Lorie is a fellow artisan who describes herself as "I am a women, I've spend most of my professional career as a nail technician and esthetician. 17 years in the beauty business. I am a wife, my husband is in the navy and of course My most beautiful creation, my daughter. She is my inspiration and greatest critic."

Lorie creates Homemade bath treats- Bath Fizzies, Scrubs and other bath and body treats! When asked what inspires her "Great scent combinations, How it makes my skin feel.. and I love to make the packages pretty. " Lorie's training comes from working as a nail technician and always searching for great products to use for doing manis and pedis. She says "I started buying books, reading online articles and talking with other bath product makers and soon I started to tweak and perfect my formulas. A few years ago I opened a Bath and Body Boutique in Florida and now I have this awesome line Bath by Riley.. All handmade and all natural." Some of Lorie's favorite materials to use are Sea Salt (she loves sea salt) and Oils- all kinds from almond oil to olive oil to sunflower oil.

Lorie says when not doing her craft "First, I am a mom.. need I say more. but I do love to go to the spa.. (facials, manis, pedis, massage) and I love to do paper crafts. "

When asked what makes her shop unique she said "All of my products are handmade in small batches so you know they are fresh... I really take a lot of time to think about the color, smell and packaging of my products. And because everyone should take a small bit of time out for themselves everyday..why not make it a bath!" she also added this comment "I love what I do.. I am always excited about creating a new fragrance or product. I have so much passion for the beauty industry and I am always the first one to try my products. If I wouldn't use it then I won't sell it.. I test my products daily in what I call "bathtub research" lol:)"

As you can see Lorie's products are truly refreshing, unique and are the BOMB!

Well it feels cold today. A beautiful 59 degrees but cold. I'm suppose to be outside taking some pics of my jewelry but I haven't gotten motivated yet but I know I should. My hubby is home today but working on his computer. We will be doing a little rearranging of the house tonight in preparation of some construction work to be done starting this weekend. Yay! progress. Well off to take my pics and hopefully warm up in the sun.....

When asked if this was a planned buy or if she was just browsing she said "It was planned, I really wanted to make some earrings. The last time I bought earring wires from a craft store, they were soooo flimsy and expensive. I'm getting a much better deal buying on Etsy; plus Etsy has a better selection than my local craft store." She also added " I did shop around on Etsy. I wanted a kind that would not hurt my sensitive ears, and were a good thickness. Also (very important) a reasonable price with reasonable shipping." We asked Jessica how she found the item, she said "I did a search in the supplies section."
Jessica is also a fellow Etsy seller at http://bornlippy.etsy.com This is what she had to say about her own shop "My shop is mostly made up of Altered Formica Tags. These are little one-of-a-kind collages with witty and sometimes dark sentiments. And Magnets. Oh the magnets! Made from bottle caps and plastic animals and whatever else I can get my hands on!" First Featured Artist: Trevor Luckman

Trevor is a fellow artisan and describes himself as "a 24 year old Southern Oregon Photographer. I grew up and still live in Grants Pass, Oregon. I attended Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History. I will be starting a Master's program in Education this summer. Hopefully in about a year and a half I will have my first teaching job as a history teacher in a high school! When I'm not on Etsy or doing photography I enjoy spending time with my family and girlfriend."

Trevor creates beautiful images of Oregon in various sizes. When asked what inspires him, he said "Being surrounded by nature, and trying to capture it as best I can." I think he truly has captured nature in all it's beauty. Trevor says he is self taught with the help of his friend Nikon with Sigma lenses. He favorite lens is the Sigma 105mm Macro.

When asked what else he likes to spend his time doing he said "Movies, history, writing, friends, girlfriend and family."
When asked why people should visit his shop Trevor says "I believe I can offer images that nobody has seen before" and I agree! Trevor has some amazing shots and closeups.
He has beautiful prints for every budget running from $2.00 to $95.00. Trevor is also more than happy to sign them for you and date when they were taken.

My very first post!!!

Hi! This is my very first post! I have never blogged before so was a little apprehensive to start but now that I am up and running it seems like it will be fun.

I started this blog to show appreciation for my fellow Etsy sellers and buyers. My goal is to feature a new seller each week and an outstanding buyer. As for the sellers it will be a surprise! I will be picking various sellers from those who post in the forums to those who get a treasury to those who have a showcase spot to those that I feel need a little advertising of there shop. As for buyers, I will contact random buyers to find out why they bought what they bought. Was it the price? The picture? The color? The size? The shape? Was it that it matches there personality? We are curious about what buyers are looking for on Etsy and what makes the final sale.

A little about me. I'm a mom and wife with a few kids and cats. I have been designing jewelry for a while now. It started way back in high school when I took a jewelry and metal smithing class. I had a great teacher and he inspired me to want to do more and always pushed for me to do more. Any ways because of him I have come to love to make things and I love to see others work. I find there is a lot of variety and talent out there. Well I am off to find my first seller to highlight!
